Education Reform Organizations

Alliance for School Choice
The goal of the Alliance for School Choice is to make good on the promise of equal access to high-quality educational opportunities by advancing programs that make private educational options available to disadvantaged children. The Alliance is a national nonprofit educational policy group advocating school choice programs across the country.

Black Alliance for Education
The Black Alliance for Educational Options, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a national, non-profit membership organization, whose mission is to actively support parental choice to empower families and increase quality educational options for black children.

Center for Education Reform
The Center for Education Reform [CER] is a national voice for more choices in education and more rigor in education programs, both of which are key to more effective schooling. It delivers practical, research-based information and assistance to a diverse audience - including parents, policy makers, and education reform groups - in taking actions to ensure that US schools are delivering a high quality education for all children in grades K-12.

Children First America
Children First America promotes parental choice in education through private tuition grants and tax funded options, giving all families the power to choose the K - 12 school that best fulfills the hopes and dreams they have for their children.

Education Leaders Council
Education Leaders Council is committed to leading educational change focused on improved academic achievement for all students. Hispanic Council For Reform and Educational Options

North Carolina Report Card
The NC School Report Cards offer a snapshot of some of the important information about individual schools. This report card includes important information about student performance, class size, school safety, and teacher quality in your child's school. The School Report cards are reported at the school, district and state levels.

The ABCs Accountability Model
A website maintained by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Has extensive information and data regarding ABCs accountability program. Contains current data back to 1996-97, includes state, local and school results.

The North Carolina Education Research Council
The North Carolina Education Research Council provides research to support decision making on major policy issues by the Education Cabinet and the units of state government its members represent.

National Data

Education Trust
The Education Trust works for the high academic achievement of all students at all levels, kindergarten through college, and forever closing the achievement gaps that separate low-income students and students of color from other youth. Our basic tenet is this — All children will learn at high levels when they are taught to high levels.

National Center for Education Statistics
National Center for Education Statistics is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data that are related to education in the United States and other nations.

Charlotte Advocates for Education

The mission of the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA), as an advocate for public school education, is to provide leadership and services that enable local boards of education to govern effectively

National Organizations

Council For Basic Education
The Council for Basic Education (CBE), a national non-profit organization, advocates high academic standards for all students and exemplary teaching in every classroom in our nation’s public schools. CBE believes that a healthy democracy depends on excellence in PK-12 public education for all children, and that excellence can be achieved best through a well-taught, standards-based curriculum in the liberal arts.

Education Intelligence Agency
The Education Intelligence Agency (EIA) is a private, for-profit contract research firm. EIA itself supports no particular program or specific reform. Weekly e-mail communiqués contains the latest news and inside information about public education. This organization provides research, analysis and investigations on teacher union's activities.

National Alliance of Business
NAB is a national nonprofit business organization which serves as the voice of business to improve student performance at all levels -- K-12, postsecondary and higher education.

National Association for Single Sex Public Education
NASSPE promotes concept of single-sex education. Web site contains reference information, research, location of single-sex public schools, and links regarding this initiative.

Cato Institute - Education Policy
Cato's Center for Educational Freedom was founded on the principle that parents are best suited to make decisions regarding the care and education of their children. The Center explores policy solutions to issues including infant and toddler care, childcare, adoption, and social services that emphasize the importance of personal solutions and family responsibility.

Goldwater Institute Center for Educational Opportunity

Heartland Institute
The Heartland Institute, a nonprofit organization devoted to turning ideas into social movements that empower people. Publishes a national monthly outreach newspaper for school reformers.

Mackinac Center for Public Policy
The Mackinac Center for Public Policy’s news and analysis for parents, educators, and policy-makers. This is a nonpartisan research and educational organization devoted to improving the quality of life.

Manhattan Institute Education Reform
The Center for Civic Innovation at the Manhattan Institute has the best education reform experts offering practical advice to policymakers.

National Center of Policy Analysis
The National Center of Policy Analysis (NCPA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research organization, established in 1983. The NCPA's goal is to develop and promote private alternatives to government regulation and control, solving problems by relying on the strength of the competitive, entrepreneurial private sector.

Reason Public Policy Institute
The Urban Futures Program strives to change the climate and terms of the debate over urban policy by developing and promoting voluntary, private-sector, and market-oriented solutions to urban problems. Education is one of the program's focus.

Professional Educators of North Carolina
Professional Educators of North Carolina is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan statewide association of education professionals. Charter Schools in North Carolina

Department of Education Charter School Office

Homeschool Information

Home School Foundation
The Home School Foundation is a supporting organization of the Home School Legal Defense Association. The foundation currently seeks to help families through four funds: the Widows Curriculum Scholarship Fund, the Special Needs Children’s Fund, the Friends of Home Schooling Fund, and the Members Helping Members Fund.

Home School Legal Defense Association
The Home School Legal Defense Association is a non-profit advocacy organization established to defend and advance the constitutional right of parents to direct the education of their children and to protect family freedoms. Through annual memberships, HSLDA is tens of thousands of families united in service together, providing a strong voice when and where needed.

National Black Home Educators Resource Association
NBHE’s mission is to empower parents teaching their children at home, and serve families by providing information and assistance on parent-directed education. NBHE offers services and information on getting started, networking with national/local organization, pairing new home school families with veteran families, and offering quarterly publication with current updates.

NC Division of Nonpublic Education
The North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education gives oversight to private elementary/secondary schools in North Carolina. This agency maintains current statistical data on each private elementary/secondary school in the state and home schools.

North Carolina African-American Homeschoolers
The mission of North Carolina African-American Homeschoolers is to provide a central point of community and resources for homeschoolers of color in North Carolina.

North Carolinians for Home Education
NCHE is a private, volunteer organization active at the state level, serving North Carolina homeschoolers. In 1984, NCHE was organized to support and encourage home educators and to protect the right to freely home educate in North Carolina. NCHE has grown into an increasingly stronger statewide service organization.

American Textbook Council
The American Textbook Council is an independent New York-based research organization established in 1989. The Council reviews history textbooks and other educational materials. It is dedicated to improving the social studies curriculum and civic education in the nation's elementary and high schools.

Education Consumers ClearingHouse
The Education Consumers ClearingHouse is a subscriber supported, online forum that serves as a kind of Consumers Union for the consumers of public education. The ClearingHouse provides online networking and information for parents, taxpayers, and policymakers. It provides a consultant network of independent and consumer-friendly experts.

GreatSchools.net
GreatSchools.net, is the nation's premier provider of K-12 school information. This national, independent nonprofit organization is committed to helping parents choose the best school for their children, support their children's education and improve schools in their community. GreatSchools.net provides information about public, private and charter schools in all 50 states.

Parent Power
Inspired by the old maxim "knowledge is power," Parent Power! is an electronic newsletter for parents who want to know more about the issues that affect their children’s education.

The Parents Network for Better Education

Diocese of Charlotte Catholic Schools

Diocese of Raleigh Catholic Schools
Diocese of Raleigh Catholic Schools provide quality Catholic education at 25 schools throughout Wake County and eastern North Carolina.

National Association of Independent Schools
The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) is a membership organization representing approximately 1,200 independent schools and associations in the United States and abroad.

NC Division of Nonpublic Education

North Carolina Association Independent Schools
NCAIS is an association of 67 schools, with over 3,300 teachers serving approximately 30,000 students.
